Don't Throw the Country into Political Turmoil, Group Warns Obasanjo

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the final collation and announcement of result of the presidential election held on Saturday, former president Olusegun Obasanjo has been warned not to throw the country into Political turmoil over his call for the cancellation of the election

Obasanjo has in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari has called for the cancellation of the result over the failure of INEC to update the election result on its website.

The call was made on Monday by the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) in a press release signed by its executive Director, Gbenga Soloki where the group described the call of the former president as an attempt to "force his preferred candidate on Nigerians", as he had  earlier endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi.

The group posited that Nigerians have spoken through the votes on Saturday and the process is on going, which had been adjudged to be free, fair and credible and wonders why the call for cancellation be made by the former president, ³who is an interested party in the election, except to "truncate democracy"

CAIDOV berated the owu born General for his meddlesome posturing at every election year since he left office, reminding him of how he conducted one of the worst elections in the history of the country in 2003

The group urged all peace loving Nigerians and other reasonable elderstatesmen to call the Owu general to order, while appealing to the election umpire to continue its good work and that whoever is not pleased with the result of the election can approach the tribunal to seek redress instead of trying to abort the process midway.

CAIDOV commended Nigerians for coming out to vote for their candidates in peaceful atmosphere, while urging them to display such electoral maturity at the next election.
