Oshodi-Isolo Council Chairman, Oloyede Partners Oshodi Born Artist to Train Youths on Arts and Crafts Design


In continuation of his commitment to empower the youth and create a conducive environment where youths can flourish and give back to the society, the executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, has partnered with an Oshodi born artist, Mr. Elijah Ikwuomonu to train youths of the council on arts and crafts design.

Oloyede who discovered the artist within the community decided to partner with him to train the youths on Arts and crafts to keep them empowered and serve as source of income for them.
 

Mr. Ikwuomonu is an Oshodi born and the CEO of Elijah's Art Academy and Gallery, an indigenous company situated in Oshodi.

During one of the outings of the executive chairman during the electioneering campaign of the just concluded elections, he saw the art work of Mr Elijah and invited him to his office where he discussed prospects with him and how he, as the chairman, and the local government can be of assistance to him and his company. 

The outcome of their discussion is the partnership between the Art Academy and the local government through the UNDP centre where youths and young adults who have passion for painting and artwork would be trained and empowered. 

While welcoming him to his office, Otunba Oloyede appreciated his unique talent and how he has engaged himself without necessarily waiting for anyone to push him. He stated that his administration will continue to put the youths of Oshodi first and will continue to support them in whatever capacity. 

He said; "I want to welcome you to my office and also appreciate your spirit. Your paintings caught my attention during the campaign and that is the reason I have invited you to talk about opportunities and prospects. As a government, we shall continue to support our youth and also encourage them. I will hand you over to the Coordinator of UNDP to see how you can also train our youths and positively engaged them on this skill."

An elated Elijah thanked the chairman for his youth-centric government and how he has been supporting the youth in his administration. 

He said; "I am very happy to be here today, I never expected the chairman could approach me because I just displayed my paintings and he requested to see me. We have had a fruitful discussion and I'm very happy about it. I have been hearing so many good things about him and I am happy that he eventually gets to me. God will continue to bless him for us. This training partnership for the youths, will be diligently carried out to assist my fellow youths on this skill. Arts and Crafts Design is a profitable venture youths can explore."
